Decisions Decisions

I've tried a lot of different approaches to our podcast in the last few weeks. With the day job heating up and the Cincinnati Kid due any day now the cost of time at home has been at a 52 week high.

Consequently I don't have time to screw around. I need things that work quickly without sounding as amateurish as they actually are.

Over the next few days I am going to be posting some of the different approaches I've tried - including what worked and what didn't. Today I am going to talk about the damn phone.

If you heard this week's show you'll know that Bob Ciaffone was kind enough to give us some of his time. You'll also note that the segment sound quality was a huge drop compared to the rest of the show. Fact is I wimped out and did the easiest and safest recording job I could - with a $15 recorder from Radio Shack. I mentioned the pain in the ass that Skype can be when we call in people's phones.

Now that it is all done I know I am not doing it this way again. I can't tolerate such a sound - you'd think we patched him in from the moon. The question is - what options does a non-professional studio have for recording a conversation on the phone? There are some software options for use with a modem card - though the idea doesn't thrill me.

I'll go through what I think works and what might work better next time in my next post - which I plan to have up tomorrow.

Thanks for listening everybody.
