The 2004 Gold Chip Winners - who will be in this photo at the end of 2005? December 4, 2004 Lord Admiral Radio is on the air...
After four weeks of listening and learning the Lord Admiral Card Club's internet podcast called simply, Card Club, is going strong. When the show originally aired it was not clear when, if ever, the show would be broadcast again. Reaction, from the club as well as listeners has been positive and the show has been produced for three weeks in a row with a fourth planned for tomorrow, December 5th.
November 11, 2004 SHOWDOWN 2004 The greatest tournament in LACC history is only two days away. Ten players will be competing for the largest prize money in the ten year club history. At noon on Saturday November 13 the dealing starts in what is expected to be at least a twelve hour tournament. All ten players will sit at the same table from the first hand. The first day of playing will last twelve hours (including one forty-five minute break) starting at noon and ending at midnight. If the tournament is not complete by midnight day two will be planned with those players remaining. The blind schedule, though informally posted earlier this month on the forums, will be officially posted tomorrow, Friday November 12. Each round will be 45mins and the blinds will start with the normal club limits: $0.50 small and $1.00 big. There will be no second place prize money awarded in the 2004 SHOWDOWN and of course there will be no house take or admin fees - the winner takes all. This championship is also the third and final gold chip event of 2004. The winner receiving the most sought after gold chip in the LACC - the 2004 club championship.
October 24, 2004 21st Century Lead Change - Again The 2004 monthly October game was another tremendous success. It produced another change in the 21st Century leader winnings and a new vested member. With 2004 leaders Evan the Terrible and Headhunter Mark touring the Vegas scene six players sat down for the last competition before the big one in November. Cincinnati Sean was the winner of the evening cashing out with $69.50 in profit, the third highest finish in 2004. The winnings put Sean on top of the 21st Century winners for the third time this year - the third separate player to have the distinction in 2004. The October was also the third consecutive appearance of Nancy Darling - earning her vested status. All players are now focusing on SHOWDOWN 2004, the No-Limit Hold'em event that crown the LACC 2004 Champion.
Oct 3, 2004 OMAHA EXCITEMENT Thursday September 30 saw Action Jason, now also known as Omaha Jake, win the 2004 Lord Admiral Pot Limit Omaha Hi Lo Championship. This tournament win, Jake's first, also awarded him the coveted Gold Chip, the second ever presented in the Lord Admiral Card Club. The evening started with seven competitors determined to be hailed as champ of what is considered the club's most volatile game. With players forced to play only two of their four cards and each pot potentially split between the best and worst hands this game has resulted in even 10 year veterans making fundamental mistakes. The field was a strong one including 2004 Satellite winner Evan the Terrible, 2004 5 stud winner Cincy Sean, perennial finalist (and winner of the Evan Open) the Inferno. Headhunter Mark, Brent Stacks, and Nancy Darling also sat down to compete. The pot-limit aspect of the game was felt immediately by a group with more experienced in either limit or no-limit play. The first hour long level went without much notice - but when antes were introduced in the next hour the short stacks began to feel the pressure. The first to go was veteran Evan the Terrible - a strong favourite. He was followed shortly by Brent Stacks. The game then became interesting when Nancy Darling and Headhunter Mark went all-in in a three-way pot with the Inferno. In one turn of the cards both the Darling and Headhunter were knocked out tied for fourth and Inferno had a huge chip lead against Cincy and Action. Fortunes soon turned as Inferno and Action continually played one another in big pots and Cincy Sean let himself be anted to insignificance. When Sean went all-in in a desperate attempt to secure his bankroll Action Jason calmly called and exited the 5 stud champ. With Inferno only a double up away from securing the lead Action played a controlled game trying to reduce the variance unless he felt sure of victory. When he called the SB with a 5-6-7-9 he watched the flop come down Q-5-6. Inferno moved all-in and Action called. They both had the bottom two-pair. The Turn, however, brought a 9 and Action Jason became the new champion. All players interviewed agreed that Action has improved his game significantly in the past year. Jason made no secret he had been reading up on Omaha in the hopes of coming to the game prepared. Everyone agreed he accomplished that goal successfully. Check out the photo gallery of the night's events here.
Aug 28, 2004 THERE IS A NEW KID IN TOWN by Guest Correspondent Headhunter Mark One week after suffering his worst night in club history, Cincy Sean won the first ever Gold Chip event by dominating a field of 9 other players in the LACC 5-Card Stud championship. The championship marks what is likely the greatest tournament victory in Sean's career. Coupled with the fact that he currently sits as our all-time chip leader in limit poker, Cincy has a lot to smile about. From the second hand, things started to go Sean's way. He made an all in bet was called by Derrick the Panzer, who was forced out after seeing his 10s fail to improve against Sean's jacks. This set the tone for the entire evening as almost immediately Brent Stacks and Evan the Terrible also went heads up. Brent was fortunate to draw a third 2 and established himself as a co-leader with Sean. From here it looked as though it might be Brent's night as he made several excellent plays to push players around. Greg the Professor quickly exited and the tables merged. While the defending champ Brent was pushing around the table a Cinderella quietly emerged as Darling Nancy began accumulating chips through a series of wily calls against big bettors. One by one, Scott the Voice, Headhunter Mark and Evan the Terrible (who had impressively regrouped) fell victim to this trap, either misreading her or being outdrawn. As Maja the Bee and Action Jason fell the wayside, everyone was stunned that the field had narrowed to three in just an hour and a half! Now with Brent Stacks, Cincy Sean and Darling Nancy all sitting comfortably on large stacks, the tourney seemed finally to slow down and catch a breath. The three dodged and parried until the limits rose. Then, a mere 2 hours and 10 minutes in, Cincy took out his rival Stacks and turned with a large lead to face the tricky Cinderella: the immovable object and the unstoppable force! Sean's No-Limit experience immediately began to show as he worked up his lead. Finally, Darling Nancy made an all-in bet and Sean called. Nancy flopped to jacks up while Sean showed 8-9-10-Q. The crowd gathered, anticipating that Darling Nancy would live to see another hand. However, the room erupted when Cincy Sean turned over a jack of his own to make the straight and take the tournament, as if out of a 50 year-old movie whose name I can't remember. With the night still young, some players threw together an ad hoc "Consolation Tournament". In a thrilling finish to an evening of brilliant poker, Action Jason took down Scott the Voice and celebrated what had suddenly became his best night at the LACC.
Aug 22, 2004 HEADHUNTER MARK TOP WINNER OF AUGUST GAME Headhunter Mark was top player in the August monthly game, his fourth top score in the nine sessions this year. The Headhunter, who revamped his game at the beginning of the year, has moved his winnings to over $200 for the year. Mark, who began studying the game for the first time in his ten years of playing, has become a student of the theory of poker and has challenged himself to perform in 2004. His study has paid off as the Headhunter has now made an appearance on the 21st century list top players list - a list he was at the bottom of at the beginning of the year.
Aug 1, 2004 EVAN THE TERRIBLE HAVING WONDERFUL SEASON The third and most likely final Satellite for SHOWDOWN 2004 was held on Thursday night and Evan the Terrible finished victorious. Calling Brent Stacks Q5s all-in with AKo both players had their heart stop when an A K 5 came down on the board. Stacks was unable to spike the final 5 and Evan walked away with $10 and the $200 buy-in for the November event. Evan, who had played in the club on occasion before 2004 has made his mark this year. With three big winning nights under his belt The Terrible is sitting in third place for money winnings in 2004 and is in second place for 21st century winners. SHOWDOWN 2004, the club's first every championship is a $200 buy-in No Limit event being held November 13, 2004. Previous satellite winners include amateur winner Greg the Professor and Scott the Voice. Check out photos Satellite #3 at our Photo Gallery here. Next month at the Lord Admiral Card Club are always popular monthly limit game is being held on August 19th and our first every Gold Chip Event, the Cincinnati Kid NL 5 Card Stud $20 buy-in championship event will be held on August 26th. Check out all of our upcoming events at our Club Schedule here.
July 25, 2004 BIG NIGHT FOR HEADHUNTER MARK - TAKES 2004 LEAD The July monthly game was a big one for Headhunter Mark. In control the entire night Mark not only won the evening but his $84 in winnings was the third highest in the Lord Admiral history - putting him as the 2004 winnings leader and finally placing him in the black for his 21st century play. Mark is having a good 2004. Apart from winning more money than any other Lord Admiral member in 2004, he has also won the one Luxor daily he participated in and the two Paradise SNGs he has participated in. All eyes will be on Mark as he sits down in only a few days to compete in Satellite #3. With Ferno planning to drive in from Kingston and Evan the Terrible expecting to attend this Thursday's matchup is expected to be a good one. NEW CHIPS FOR THE CLUB Here at the Lord Admiral Card club we strive to bring our members nothing but the best. PLEASE NOTE: Included with the new chips is a limited quantity of Gold Chips. Effective this year these chips will be presented to winners of any of our championship events. Our first Gold Chip event is the August Cincinnati Kid (5 stud) $20 buy-in championship. NEW DATE FOR THE SHOWDOWN Showdown 2004 has a new date: Nov 13, 2004. July 4, 2004 SCOTT THE VOICE TAKES SATELLITE #2 The second satellite for SHOWDOWN 2004 took place June 24, 2004. Nine hopefuls from the Lord Admiral Card gathered for $25 a piece to play for the $200 entry fee in the SHOWDOWN. When the dust had settled Scott the Voice walked away with his SHOWDOWN certificate and $25. The Voice stayed in control throughout the match pushing and bullying his way to the top. Second place went to Ferno, who has been well represented in tournaments in 2004 with his win at the Evan and Maja Invitational earlier in the year. Noted absentees were Brent Stacks and Alabama Lucie. Stacks was out of town and is expected to be present in the third and final Satellite in July. Alabama has not been seen since her 2002 Omaha Victory, but word out of the west end is she is considering a return in the pending championship. Take a look at the Satellite Photo Gallery here.
June 20, 2004 Brent Stacks Wins Big! Brent Stacks won $93 in the June '04 monthly game. The big win, second biggest ring game win in Admiral history, puts Stacks as both the 2004 and 21st Century chip leader. Stacks flew in from Banff and played for slightly over four hours in a dominating performance. Previous 21st century and 2004 money leader, Evan the Terrible, was unable to continue his winning streak and finished down in the first ring game of his short Admiral career. Evan has fallen to #3 in both 21st century and 2004 winnings. The Lord Admiral Card Club's newest member to the monthly game, Maja, played a strong game and made quick believers out of the old-timers. Maja finished in second for the night at about $20 in winnings. The monthly game also saw the return of John and Jake - both members who would have lost vested status had they not attended. Jim, Jake, and Katie are on the bubble for the July game and lose status if they cannot attend. All eyes are now on this Thursday June 24, when Satellite #2 2004 takes place, the first open Satellite for the 2004 Showdown. Between six to eight players are expected to compete - the winner will join Greg the Professor and the club's best in the October championship.
June 5, 2004 AMATEUR SATELLITE CHAMPION - GREG THE PROFESSOR Greg the Professor, long-time associate of the LACC members has won the 2004 Amateur Championship after winning the 2004 Amateur Satellite on Thursday June 3rd. Beating a field of eleven other players in NL Hold'em the quiet spoken card player -with only one previous poker session under his belt - managed to bully and pound his way to the top. The Professor is the first member of the LACC to have his buy-in confirmed for SHOWDOWN 2004, the Club Championship, in October later this year.
May 11, 2004 (announced to the mailing list May 4, 2004) ANNOUNCEMENT ONE - NAME CHANGE After much soul-searching the shareholders of the SNCC have decided to give the club a new name. In a lesson learned from the Martha Stewart debacle we are dropping the reference to Sean Nelson in the club name in the hopes that any future scandals involving Sean Nelson will not impact the club's reputation. The new club name will be: The Lord Admiral Card Club. The change is effective at the end of this sentence. The website will be updated with the new name this weekend. ANNOUNCEMENT TWO - THE 2004 SHOWDOWN sponsored by The Lord Admiral Card Club The Lord Admiral Card Club is proud to announce our social group's biggest card tournament ever: The 2004 Showdown. Not since Nick "the Greek" Andalos met Johnny Moss head to head at Binions over sixty years ago has a card event been so anticipated for its guts and decisiveness at producing a champion. The 2004 Showdown is moving from conception to application and I thought I would share my thoughts and encourage a discussion amongst those who would like contribute. Please review the items below and feel free to comment. If you are interested be sure to respond to Concept #8 (your level of interest). Concept #1 - The purpose of The 2004 Showdown is to take the most hard-core card fans/players in our group and invite them to sit-down at one table to play for the club championship. Concept #2 - This will be the highest buy-in and pay-out in the history of our club and affiliates by a long shot. Only people who are seriously ready to put $200 or so on the line need apply. We aren't looking to get the maximum amount of players. Ideally one table will do. Concept #3 - We are looking for 5 to 7 players. If each put in $200 the winner would get a minimum $1000 payout. Concept #4 - This will be NL Hold'em. Starting at our normal $0.50/$1.00 blinds moving up gradually to $5/$10 blinds with antes. Concept #5 - Although the minimums increase we never move it up to a "finish game now" lottery. We'll cap them at $5/$10 and if the game doesn't finish it continues at later times agreed upon by the competitors. Concept #6 - We'll hold it on an October or November Saturday and go from noon to midnight. If it doesn't complete those who are still in contention will work out a schedule with me until it does. Concept #7 - We will not cap the tourney at players - if more join we will make room Concept #8 - This is a lot of money so I imagine not everyone is 100% sure. So I group interested people into three groups: (GROUP 1) Those who will definitely play. (GROUP 2) Those who would like to but have not come to terms with the amount of money and therefore may not actually play when the time comes. (GROUP 3) Those who would like to but can't spend that kind of money - but they may play a satellite and join if they win that. Concept #9 - If you are interested I'd like to know what group you fall under. Concept #10 - Those in Group #1 will look to pick a date now so we all get plenty of notice. Concept #11 - I am in Group #1. If even only one player ends up signing up and playing I will be there and we'll go head to head - just like Nick the Greek and Johnny Moss. All those who are interested are invited to reply. I must now return to work.
May 1, 2004: The new poker table has arrived! Reaction has been overwhelmingly positive and although it will be tight with 8 people it is now possible for the dealer to reach into the pot and control the game. Speaking of the dealer we also now have a physical button. I wanted to add this to the game for two reasons. First it is easier to see your position if you've lost track of the betting. Second (and more importantly) I want to give people an opportunity to opt out of dealing. A good dealer keeps the game going with minimal complications. If anyone gets tired or feels they don't want to deal I'd like them to feel they can opt out. As long as we have button anyone can deal in their place. More rules clarifications:
April 18, 2004: We've had a great season so far. The 2004 season has seen some exciting new innovations:
April 17, 2004: Monthly Game comments. We had a great monthly game last week and I'd like to thank everyone who
attended. I don't know what I enjoyed the most, Evan's triumphant comeback from
tapping out, Ryan's return to our table, or my finally finishing up after a two
game losing streak.
